What do you enjoy most about participating in #QBOchat each week?
First and foremost: the friendly, welcoming community of chatters! I love being able to build friendships with so many different people, most of whom I’ve never met in person (…yet!)
Secondly, as a developer, I’m usually behind the scenes of the app, working more with the end-user; it is so helpful and refreshing to get a new perspective from the community of bookkeepers and accountants who use QuickBooks every day!
After we were selected as one of the top 10 finalists in the 2017 App Showdown, Annie Terry organized a Showdown Takeover chat and threw us into the fire – I mean – encouraged us to participate 😉 I remember thinking it was somehow the shortest and the longest hour of my life – and I couldn’t wait to do it again! (I often joke that twitter chat is my cardio of choice)
What do you do?
Officially, I am the UI developer for LOCATE Inventory – in other words, I communicate with the back end of LOCATE to make it possible for our end users to navigate and interact with the application.
Unofficially, I am the designated tweeter, graphic designer, web developer, and #1 snacker at LOCATE – in other words, I try to make us look good and usually have popcorn kernels stuck in my keyboard.
What’s the one problem you are best at solving for your clients?
Growth. I know it’s strange to say growth is a “problem” – but prior to building LOCATE, we spent years as consultants trying to help growing companies stay on QuickBooks. They either weren’t getting the features and support they needed from their existing inventory management software, or their ever-growing list of orders, parts, customers, etc. was overloading their QuickBooks file. Either way, they were running out of options and would be forced to jump to a costly ERP system before they were ready. We thought, “there has to be a better solution!” so we built LOCATE to fill that gap in the market. Because we summarize the data into QuickBooks, larger companies can stay in the QuickBooks ecosystem (yes, even QuickBooks Online!) without sacrificing advanced inventory capabilities.
What are you most passionate about professionally?
For me, it’s trying to change certain misconceptions people have about inventory management.
First, it’s the people who ask what LOCATE does, then run for the hills before I can finish saying “inventory manag….nevermind.” Don’t worry, I don’t take it personally 😉 I totally understand that inventory has a bit of a reputation for making a mess of the financials – and that used to be true! But LOCATE was designed with accounting in mind (and likes to rhyme), so I make it my mission to show everyone just how simple inventory accounting can be when you team up with the right app!
Secondly, it’s the mindset that “large companies have to stay on QuickBooks Desktop.” Again, this used to be the case for many inventory-based companies – but now that LOCATE can keep their QB file lean, more and more companies are making the switch. We’ve helped some of our biggest clients (50+ users, processing upwards of 1.5k orders a day) migrate from desktop to QBO, and they‘ve never looked back!
- Running – I am deceivingly slow, but I love it nonetheless. It’s one of the only sports that doesn’t care how good you are – you can run a 5-minute mile or a 15-minute mile, you’re still a runner! I run with a local group every week and it makes the time fly by when you are chatting and making new friends. Right now, I’m training for the Paris Marathon in April and I’m so excited!
- Harry Potter – I grew up in the prime of the “Harry Potter Generation.” I have read the books a million times and it never gets old. I recently geeked out with other QBO-ers on Twitter about the French word for The Sorting Hat; they call it Le Choixpeau – a combination of the word choice (choix) and hat (chapeau) – so brilliant!
- Dogs – duh! I LOVE when dogs make an appearance on #QBOchat – #puppersforall!

Q1: What’s your favorite feature of QuickBarks Online?
Anything else you’d like us to know?
Fun facts about LOCATE:
Our favorite team-building activity is playing Settlers of Catan, usually with a beer in hand 😉
On any given day, there will be between 3-5 dogs in the office. Our COO just rescued a brand new puppy named Poppy, and we can’t get enough of her!
Amongst our team of 13, five of us share the same last name! Three brothers (including identical twins), plus myself and my sister in law, who are each married to one of the twins. But regardless of the name, everyone in our company is like family!
