Each New Year brings new ideas for innovation in all businesses or groups, and #QBOchat is no exception. This year, we decided to take our weekly tweet chat to the next level by creating a website dedicated solely to all things #QBOchat. From supporting the actual chat in our website to having archived chats and posts on topics easily accessible, we’ve got it all in one spot!
Here is more about our journey and where we plan on taking #QBOchat into 2015 and beyond.
Evolution of QBOchat
#QBOchat emerged in the summer of 2013 as a way for QuickBooks Online users and experts to get together and discuss developments, changes, events, apps, and upcoming happenings with QuickBooks Online. We wanted to make #QBOchat accessible to other QuickBooks Online users and experts, and there’s no better place to chat, party, and attract attention on social media than Twitter.
Originally, #QBOchat occupied a 7:00pm time slot with a modest group of attendees. Word began to spread about this forum and more participants began to join each week. Incredibly, in less than two years #QBOchat has grown and expanded to include an impressive number of participants from all over the world. In an effort to accommodate time frames more feasible for QuickBooks Online industry experts and users, we found it made sense to reschedule #QBOchat to 3:00pm EST on Thursdays, and making that prudent time adjustment helped #QBOchat blossom into what it is today. (It might also have to do with Cathy being a mom of 2 young kids that had a bedtime around 7pm.) I’m proud of how far #QBOchat has come in less than two years, and the time is right for even more awesome changes to kick off 2015.
The #QBOchat changes and our vision for 2015
First things first: our weekly QuickBooks Online chats aren’t going anywhere. We aim to successfully grow our community through this fun new website, Facebook and YouTube pages. Unicorns and libations with our amazing group (magical creatures in their own right) having fun and laughing together, learning more to perfect our craft and generally “geeking out” together won’t be changing, only getting better!
The goal in our planned expansion of #QBOchat is to engage even more users and share our love for QuickBooks Online. Twitter is a fantastic platform, but it’s important to diversify in the digital arena and be everywhere potential QuickBooks Online enthusiasts are. We want QBOchat.com and its social platforms to become the go-to place for everything new, changing and awe-inspiring about QuickBooks Online.
We would love to engage more QuickBooks Online business users to allow us to round out this amazing community we’ve built, so rather than waiting for them to eventually come to us, we’re implementing these changes to go to them.
The Unveiling of the new #QBOchat website, QBOchat.com
As the group has continued to grow, I decided we needed a dedicated home. Thus the QBOchat.com website was born!
Love our fun look? It’s been a pleasure building this with our friends at bbr marketing and we even have a dedicated blog and some rockin’ sponsors already! And don’t forget to check out our new YouTube page. Thanks to Nurph, the best Twitter chat platform (even with a few hiccups), we can chat live within the site now.
The type of content to expect with the new chats
To appeal to the business users and others who love the visual appeal of videos, we’ve already uploaded a few #QBOchat in 60 second videos. I hope to get other amazing QBO-related videos and channels integrated with the #QBOchat channel. Between video, informative content on the dedicated blog, archived chats teeming with information and attracting QuickBooks Online business users who prefer Facebook and Youtube, there are no limits to the enormous value the new changes will add to the entire QuickBooks Online community. Also, don’t forget to take a peek at our Pinterest page, too, where we’ll be sharing great information.
Appealing to others to share content through crowdsourcing
Crowdsourcing is huge, and I owe thanks to Brian Austin from Avalara (@austinnexus) for the idea, and I love it. We’d love to start crowdsourcing topics and content. I’ve learned it can sometimes be challenging, though not impossible, to get users to share content. But I have faith that our group will have plenty of great ideas to share, both from their perspectives and that of their clients and cohorts. The possibilities could be endless. Perhaps you have something you’d like to share?
Are you now properly excited about everything #QBOchat?! Be sure to join in the fun and excitement with us each week. Be sure to sign up for our weekly reminder email (at the bottom of the home page) so you won’t miss a single chat. Looking forward to seeing everyone next week!
