What do you enjoy most about participating in the Build Your Best QBO Practice Facebook Group?
COMMUNITY!! I enjoy the fact that this group is full of individuals who are just as excited and eager about QuickBooks Online. Prior to joining Build Your Best QBO Practice Facebook Group I felt isolated, especially when working from home. I was also new to the area recently moving from northern New Jersey. I was looking for my “tribe” – seeking people who shared that same passion for learning. I also wanted to do meaningful, efficient, and accurate work and the QBO Practice Facebook Group provides me with the information to do just that.
How did you find out about #QBOchat?
I stumbled upon Cathy Iconis Proadvisor of the Month article feature. I read the article and learned more about Cathy’s accomplishments and it energized my desire to learn more and grow my best QBO practice. I discovered that she had a QBO Facebook Group and I instantly thought to myself “Oh, she seems like she knows what she is doing” and joined the group.
What do you do?
I am an Enrolled Agent. I provide bookkeeping services to service-based businesses along with IRS representation to individuals to resolve outstanding tax liability.
What’s the one problem you are best at solving for your clients?
Education. I have found that many of my clients intrinsically want to do the right thing – they want to resolve their tax issues but they don’t know where to start. There also tends to be this feeling of shame or fear of being reprimanded for even needing my services – it can be a tough situation to be in. They want someone who understands what they are going through and I do. I provide them with precise steps to resolving the issue and most importantly, educating them in ways not to revert back. It helps them to feel encouraged and motivated throughout the process and that’s essential.
What are you most passionate about professionally?
Applied knowledge. Aristotle said it best “The more you know, the more you know you don’t know” – it both entices and humbles me. I can take what I learn and share it with my clients and they, in turn, apply it to their own lives. As laws change and new information becomes available, there is always an opportunity to learn more and I love that.
What topics interest you that you connect with others about? (kids, travel, work, tv, etc – it can be anything)
Currently, outside of running a business, the next best thing are my children. I have a 6-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter and they keep me on my toes! They are a constant source of encouragement. As a mompreneur, there are moments that are definitely challenging but they cheer me on – it really means so much to me.
What topic would you like to see in future Twitter chats, Facebook posts, or training?
Invoices, some clients as per their industry are required to attach photos or additional disclosure information to their invoice. The flexibility and the customization of invoices are sorely underrated.
Anything else you’d like us to know or include in your post?
I’ve lost two brothers to suicide so I am a BIG suicide prevention advocate. I attend and help raise money for the annual “Walking out of Darkness” suicide prevention awareness walk in Piedmont Park here in Georgia. I believe that spreading love and finding your tribe is a critical part of feeling welcomed and loved. Although suicide prevention advocacy is a personal contribution, much of my compassion and ability to empathize and understand with my client stems from my experience as an advocate.
