TSheets is a time tracking and scheduling app that integrates with QuickBooks Online. Get rid of your manual handwritten timecards and automate your time tracking with TSheets. We asked them 8 questions, as a part of our “What Is” blog series, to learn more about their app and their company.
What is your App’s name, what do you do, & when did you get published on Intuit’s Apps.com?
Our app is officially called TSheets — but we’re affectionately known as the #1 employee rated and requested time tracking and scheduling app on the planet!
We provide accurate-to-the-second time tracking for small and large businesses alike — saving them hundreds of hours of time and thousands of dollars in gross payroll costs each year. Earlier this year we were excited to release TSheets Scheduling, an employee scheduling software that works in tandem with TSheets Time Tracking and revolutionizes the way employers manage and schedule their employees.
TSheets made its official Apps.com debut in 2012 — and we’ve received more than 2,000 five-star reviews ever since.
What was the main problem you were trying to solve when you first developed your app?
The year was 2006, our fearless CEO, Matt Rissell, was the proud owner of several Cartridge World locations — in fact, he was the #1 franchisor in the country. However, Matt had a serious problem: Time theft.
He discovered that one of his most loyal employees was fudging her time card by nearly fifteen to thirty minutes each day — and he knew that if she was doing it, his other employees probably were too.
Now, just a few minutes extra on a time card each day might not seem like a very big deal, but Matt did that math and discovered that if all 36 employees added just ten extra ten minutes to their timesheets each day, he was essentially paying for an extra employee who didn’t even exist!
With that in mind, he turned to his developer friend, Brandon Zehm, for help. Together, they created what today is knows as TSheets — accurate and easy time tracking for employees. After just a few weeks of use, TSheets had already saved Matt thousands of dollars in payroll costs — and very nearly eliminated his problems with inaccurate timesheets.
As a small business owner himself, he knew he had to share his new invention with the world. It was (and still is) is hope that TSheets would help business owners everywhere save time and money — and ultimately see success.
What companies (or users) are the best fit for TSheets?
Those who wouldn’t benefit from the time tracking power of TSheets would be a shorter list!
We recommend our app to any business with employees (both hourly and salaried) and for freelancers.
Not only does TSheets make running payroll a total breeze, but it also helps protect business owners from FLSA wage and hour lawsuits — and TSheets’ real-time reports provide business owners with valuable business insight they wouldn’t get anywhere else.
No employees? No problem! We are a perfect fit for freelancers or solo-entrepreneurs. In fact, studies show that people who use TSheets bill up to 20% more — just by generating more accurate invoices and charging their clients for every second actually worked.

Aside from the obvious (accurate and easy time tracking + fast and simple scheduling)…
GPS location tracking:
Using the Who’s Working window — employers can easily see who’s on the clock, what they’re working on, and even where they are. It makes managing multiple job sites or locations, well, a whole lot easier. But there’s an important safety aspect as well — “If my workers are out in the field,” says TSheets PRO Annie Newton, “and I can’t reach them, I can use TSheets to see where they are and make sure they’re okay.” The TSheets GPS location tracking feature has even prevented an employee from being wrongfully incarcerated, recovered a stolen Android phone, and located an employee’s stolen truck!
Payroll can be a dirty word among business owners, but thanks to TSheets’ seamless integration with Intuit QuickBooks, it doesn’t have to be. Employees simply track time in TSheets, and account admins export that time to QuickBooks for payroll with just one click. It’s fast, easy, and incredibly accurate — and payroll, a task that once took up to 8 hours, now takes minutes.
Gone are the days of chasing down paper timesheets and deciphering employee handwriting. TSheets mobile time tracking makes it possible to track time anytime, anywhere — right from the device you already have in your pocket. Using the TSheets app, employees can clock in/out, take breaks, change jobs, submit timesheets, and even manage PTO. No smartphone? No problem. Employees can use our app on the go with a quick call, text, or even tweet.
Tell us about your company’s culture and leadership.
One thing’s for sure — we’re not your average SaaS company. We live and breathe by THE PBR. Yes, it’s a beer, but it’s also the acronym for the TSheets core values — and you’ll find a plethora of both right here at TSheets HQ.
Over the past several years, we’ve been named “The Best Place to Work in Idaho,” we’ve landed on Entrepreneur’s list of “Top Company Culture,” and we were honored to receive Idaho’s “Innovative Company of the Year.”
We didn’t earn those titles without a top-notch team — and we didn’t build that team without top-notch leadership.

How is TSheets different from your competitors?
We realized long ago that TSheets should be fun and easy to use for the people who actually use it — the employees. And that sentiment is reflected in our tagline, “We <3 Employees.” From our product, to our customer support, to our support of the accountant community — we do it all with the employee in mind.
Additionally, we’ve made it our prerogative to only partner with best of breed apps and software — like QuickBooks and Intuit Online Payroll. When best of breed apps come together to form a seamless integration, the result is an exceptional customer experience.
Finally, we believe in the power of working really hard, and playing even harder. We have fun working at TSheets, and we want you to have fun working with us.
