What do you enjoy most about participating in #QBOchat each week?
I love the community at #QBOChat. Everyone is devoted to sharing their best practices with each other and finding the best solutions to common problems.
How did you find out about #QBOchat?
I found out about it on Twitter based on who I was following participating in it. I decided to click on the hashtag and learn more. I found out that it goes every Thursday from 12-1pm PDT which worked pretty good in my schedule. Then a meeting changed from Fridays to Thursdays and now it’s harder to participate but I still love the opportunity to connect with my colleagues.
What do you do?
This is a hard one to answer… I primarily lead the outsourced client accounting services for our firm. I meet with all of our new business clients and diagnose their needs, determine a prescription to help them, and then create pricing packages to offer to them. Once they accept our proposal, I work at onboarding them by setting up all the different applications and setting up their workflows within our firm. I then work with another team member to do their accounting services for the first few months. I do a lot of business consulting on entity selection and help transition a lot of sole-proprietorships to S-Corporations. I will meet with the attorney and help them get setup as a new corporation. I also do a lot of QuickBooks & Accounting training via Zoom meetings which are all recorded and emailed to my clients for their use after-the-fact. During tax season, I meet with a number of individual and business tax clients and help with their tax filings.
What’s the one problem you are best at solving for your clients?
I love connecting with my clients and helping them with whatever their pain points are. If they are struggling with entering each transaction manually into QuickBooks Desktop, I will recommend converting to QuickBooks Online and using a 3rd party app like Receipt Bank and using Bank Feeds w/ Bank Rules. If they are paying too much in taxes, I will recommend various strategies to help them lower their tax burdens. If they are having a problem with business profitability, I will help them determine what expenses they can minimize and how to grow their profits. I just love finding solutions to my clients’ greatest pains and helping them vision and resources to proactively and effectively impact the world.
What are you most passionate about professionally?
I’m passionate about using every moment available to make a difference in the lives of those that I serve. If I’m not adding value to those I serve then I need to
I’m passionate about using every moment available to make a difference in the lives of those that I serve. If I’m not adding value to those I serve then I need to re-examine my goals and the steps I’m taking to achieve those goals. I believe that the right kind of value can only be accomplished through the human relationships we have with those we serve. Incidentally, human relationships is the space that artificial intelligence (AI) will never be able to interact in and should never interact in. I believe that the areas that will never be and should never be automated through AI are the specific areas that we should focus our career and our firm on which will help us survive the coming disruption by AI. Then when we purpose to go beyond the “Trusted Advisor” role to the “Difference Maker” role, we will shift from just surviving the coming disruption to thriving by riding the surge.
What topics interest you that you connect with others about?
I love making a difference in others’ lives. This means that I spend a good majority of my time when I’m not working helping others in Haiti, Ghana, Uganda, Bangladesh and other countries with the Christian Aid Ministries S.A.L.T. Program. I’ve also spent a lot of time working with Chaplains throughout the state of CA for a prison ministry project for the past 7 years or so. I love spending time with my family and all my nephews and nieces. They make my life so much fun. When I’m not working at the office or volunteering for SALT, you can normally find me busy reading a book, staying connected with what’s happening in the accounting profession on twitter, at some church event or working on our church website, playing volleyball with friends, or occasionally backpacking and camping in the mountains.
What topic would you like to see in a future #QBOchat?
I’d love to see a topic on Giving Back to others in a way that aligns with our Vision/Mission/Purpose.
