What is your App’s name, what do you do, & when did you get published on Intuit’s Apps.com?

Knowify is the premier job costing and project management app for construction contractors using QuickBooks Online. We give contractors tools to build comprehensive budgets and track job costs against those budgets in real time; manage their bids, contracts, and change orders (including e-signature functionality); and bill their clients quickly and easily in whatever manner the contract specifies, be it % completion progress billing, time and materials, or even AIA Application for Payment-style billing.

We were first published on Apps.com in early 2015.

What was the main problem you were trying to solve when you first developed your App?

As you’re well aware, QBO has some shortcomings in the areas of budgeting, job costing, and progress billing. Knowify solves all of those issues – and is in many ways superior to QBD in its job costing functionality. We then add to that core toolset features designed to address the other painful administrative tasks of running a contracting business – change order management, timekeeping, field-office communication, scheduling, and more. The end result is that Knowify ends up being a single system contractors can use to stay on top of all of their jobs, personnel, and equipment in real-time. (It also helps to keep the contractors out of the QuickBooks!)

What companies (or users) are the best fit for your App?

We serve commercial and residential trades contractors (HVAC, Plumbing, etc), specialty contractors/subcontractors, and residential general contractors of all sizes. The only two construction business types that we don’t serve are commercial general contractors and handyman/service-only contractors.

Tell us about your users’ top 3 favorite features or benefits of your App.

Job costing that shows you where you are vs. your budgets in real time. In Knowify’s signature ‘Plan and Track’ section, you can compile detailed, phase-specific budgets for the work you’re going to perform. Then, because everything in Knowify is connected, you’ll be able to track your progress against budget in real time!

Electronic Bids and Change Orders (with customized templates!). Knowify has a Word-document-based templating engine on the back end, so (almost) anything your client can dream up for their bid or change order forms we can re-create for them in Knowify. Then can then use Knowify’s simple, intuitive interface to create and send bids/change orders in less time than they ever thought possible – and even send them out for electronic signature directly through the system!

(For those that need it) 60-second AIA billing. For commercial contractors required to bill using the industry-standard AIA form set, Knowify’s AIA builder is an incredible time saver. If you’re familiar with the AIA billing process, you’ll be stunned by how easy we make it to turn out the G702/G703 forms.

Tell us about your company’s culture and leadership.

Knowify is led by co-Founders Marc Visent and Dan de Roulet. Our focus as a company is to make powerful, easy-to-use tools that help contractors know how they’re doing job-by-job in real time while reducing the administrative burden of their businesses. We are a very service-oriented company, since we know from experience that excellent support can make a huge difference when dealing with a market (contractors) that can be a bit prickly when it comes to adopting new technology.

How is your App different from your competitors?

Most of our competitors focus on homebuilders or commercial general contractors. Our focus has always been on the remodelers, trades contractors, and specialty contractors/subcontractors. We also are much more focused on providing robust job-costing tools than our competitors.

What is the pricing for your App?

Pricing for a standard Knowify subscription starts at $68/month, which is very inexpensive for construction software!
